Where did the time go?

I cannot believe that it has been over a year since I wrote on this thing last. Sooooo much has happened in the life of Lola I don't know where to begin so I'm not back tracking I'm just moving forward.

Lola is now 2 years and 2 months. She is still the best thing since sliced bread :) Since I wrote last we have moved to a new place in a new town, and that took a lot of getting used to for her. It meant not seeing her buddies every day, and not going to the dog park on a regular basis. It was pretty devastating for Lola. She has come along, and made the best of the situation though. We have also had a new addition to our little family. In May of 2008 we adopted a cat and named him Paisley. The thought is that he is about 2-3 years old. He is a big black cat and I thought maybe he'd be some company for Lola when I am gone all day, and also for when I'm here. It didn't really work out that way though. Lola "likes" Paisley just fine, but that's where it ends. They will have there usual wrestling match, and chase each other around, but sometimes the cat can play a little rough and Lola will end up crying and running to me for help. Another thing that annoys Lola is that he tries to get some attention from me and well that's just not happening. I can read Lola's mind every time. "That's my Mom! Get away"! Needless to say they didn't become the kind of buddies I was hoping for.

Ottawa Boston Terrier Meetup Group

Lola and I joined a group that is just for Boston Terriers. It usually meets up once a month at the Arboretum. We've gone twice so far and she loved it both times, but the first time was a bit chilly for her so she spent most of the time being held. The last time we went though was great! She was able to play off of her leash and she enjoyed running around with the other dogs and there was even CAKE! One of the members brought her dog a birthday cake from the Bark and Fitz for his 2nd birthday. He shared it with all of the other Bostons. The owner put the cake on the ground and didn't say a word but just waited to see what would happen. Sure enough the first puppy to find it was....LOLA. If it's food, she'll find it. She started eating as fast as she could. I let her have a bit of a snack but I put her back on her leash until it was gone. She has such a sensitive stomach that I have to be a mean mom when there's delicious cake around.

Lola is in the pink harness.

Busy little Boston!

Alright ,so Lola and I sat down and looked back at the last month and a half and figured out what she's been up to.

We decided to just finish February in one blog because it's been sometime since then, and plus I didn't take any pictures of the events. That will change though. I shall return to being camera happy!

So, let's go back to the past shall we?

February 24:

Lola had her last visit at the vet for her shots. It was a sad day because I enjoyed taking her there for the reason being that they were so nice to her and I don't want to be taking her back there because that might mean she's sick. Although she will return to get spayed which is going to cost me almost as much as she cost me. She will also have her yearly visits to update her shots so atleast we have that.
So, she got in to see her vet and would you believe it? She threw up all over the table. The vet didn't want to upset her or cause her anymore stress so she took her to the back to give her them so I didn't get to assist.
We also found out from that visit that she had a bladder infection. Poor little Lola. She had to go on meds which made her sick so we had to switch and give her different ones which were liquid and smelled exactly like stuff I used to take when I was a kid. In the end she turned into a real puppy(dog) that day, ready to take on the world!

February 25:

After Lola got her last shots we went home to see her Grandpa and Grandma. They were happy to see her. They hadn't seen her since January. They couldn't believe how much she had grown and my mom couldn't get over her ears, and how they stood up so well now. She tried desperately to play with Lucky but didn't really get far being that Lucky is 12 now and too old to be playing supposedly. My nephew and sister were there so she atleast got to play with him. We also went over to my other sister's house to visit my neice, nephew, sister and her husband. She was scared of my neice because she screamed alot when Lola would jump up or come near her. Lola thought she was too much. She tried to attack the vaccuum, so they accused me of not ever vaccuuming. They were almost right. Lola and I left before supper and she slept the whole way home, and practically the rest of the night. She was exhausted.

Visiting the Vet!

So far Lola has been to the vet three times. The first time she went had two purposes. The first purpose was to go just for a check-up soon after I got her, and the second was becasue the night before she gave me quite a scare.
It was the first time I had gone out and left her alone. I went to the store for 30 minutes and came straight back. When I got back I was sooooo happy to see her I picked her up and gave her a million kisses and hugged her and was really excited with her. She was excited too! I realized that while I had been gone she had gone to the bathroom (Number 2), but that she had eaten some of it. Gross! I put her down and she started playing with my slippers, and threw up all over them. I cleaned up the mess and comforted her because she had startled herself. I probably stupidly gave her supper soon after this but she wanted no part of it. I tried to make her eat by giving her a piece at a time. She was sick alot after this and she started to do this backwards sneezing thing that sounds like they can't breathe and are trying to catch their breath with everything they have. At the time I was scared out of mind. I called practically everyone I knew and balled, and asked what to do. They all said she was probably fine, but if I needed them to come over they would and go to the vet with me. I called a couple of 24 hour vets and they said to keep an eye on her and if it continued, to bring her in right away for only $135 JUST to see her. I said, ya I'll get right on that. I sucked it up and took her temperature. Something I said I would NEVER do, but good mommies have to be strong. She didn't have a fever and was able to breathe normally again after 5-10 minutes or so. This is when I called the vet and made the appointment for an early check-up (instead of my later booked one in a couple of weeks). The next day we went in and the vet checked her over and said she couldn't have been healthier, and probably from eating her own POO and all of the excitement, plus probably some stress with me leaving her all alone for the very first time, she had a night like a night after the bar.

The next vet visit was for a needle. The staff at the vet I go to is wonderful. They think she is so cute and play with her alot. We had a different vet this time and she was just as great as the first. She made me feel like a very good puppy parent. She too couldn't get over how good and healthy Lola was (is). She was even super at the needle. I had some treats from the vet in my hand that she nibbled at and at the same time she gave her the shot. Not a peep, but a VERY sleepy puppy for the rest of the day.

Our most recent visit was today. Again for more shots. Lola got to go on the big scale this time, and she said hello to everyone in the waiting room and even the other dogs when we got there. She played with the staff until our turn was up. We had the same vet, and no concerns or problems were seen. She had two needles this time and drops in her nose. I showed of her new trick of high-five and we chatted about her for a while. I love going to the vet! Thank goodness so does Lola! Just like last time she's been pretty dead to the world today as well.
Sooooooo tired.

Christmas Puppy

Lola and I made our way home for Christmas on December 24. We left around 4pm and I put her in a box I had gotten for her ride in the car. She looked around for a few minutes, but quickly fell asleep, and slept the whole 45 minute ride home. I pet her the whole way just so she would maybe sleep better.
When we arrived home my brother was already there. We came seperately this year because I wasn't sure how long I would stay. I brought in all of our things and got her settled. She met Lucky, which is my first dog. She lives with my parents because it would have been too much to bring her with me when I left home. She's happier there anywyay.
The cats took their turns saying hello but weren't too interested when they relized what it was. They stayed away pretty much the rest of our visit.
She got acquainted with her Grandpa, and Grandma. She liked her Grandpa right away, but her Grandma assumed she would be ugly so it took a little while for her to forgive her once she apologized.
My brother tried not to admit he liked her but I knew he would have to. She's too hard to resist with that cute little face. She really liked him too. She fell right asleep in his arms.
Christmas morning we all got up and opened our presents. She tried to patient and watch but she fell asleep before we were all done. She got a chew toy from her grandparents.
In the later afternoon everyone started to roll in and that's when I saw her less and less. The kids and adults LOVED her. The younger ones fought over who got to hold her next. She was the star of the show. She even made a Reitman's commercial with my neice, posed for many pictures with her new cousins.
We left on Boxing Day, and she slept the whole way back to Ottawa.
It was a nice trip, and I can't wait to take her back to visit more often after she finishes getting all of her shots.

Here are some pictures from Christmas. Enjoy!

My new little addition!

On December 22, 2006 my new little puppy arrived at my door at 8am. She was found for me on a website almost a month earlier after I almost gave up hope of finding a puppy, and I asked my friend to see if she could look for me. Lola came from Thetford Mines, Quebec, which is like 4-6 hours away. She was luckily delivered to me for free by the breeders, so I didn't mind paying the amount they asked for her. I was in contact with them for the whole time up until she was delivered. They were really great. They sent me pictures every week, and called me if there was anything that needed to be talked about right away. I would definately recommend them to anyone looking for a Boston Terrier. So, the first day went well. She bonded with me immediately. She ate well, and slept ALOT. She never cried during the night but that could have been because she was right beside my bed for part of the night, and then she slept with me for the rest. She is a very sweet addition to my life!

Here's more pictures of the days leading up to her arrival, and day one.
